The Tasting Room at Lorien Hotel

What once was a bustling bistro and bar on King Street in historic Old Town Alexandria, The Tasting Room had plans to re-open post pandemic with a refreshed design, new direction, and whimsical energy to match the quaint historic neighborhood it resides in.

We worked with the team to design the new identity for the space and a design to match. Being that the Tasting Room is set inside an old carriage house near historic Alexandria, Virginia’s waterfront. This gorgeous, peaceful setting boasts history of a bustling docks, warehouses and booming factory town on the Potomac River.

With that in mind, we wanted to combine warm homely historic Virginia touches with a wayward traveler’s spin. We complemented the existing brick flooring with ornate crystal dinging pendants and floral wallpaper to foster a cozy and warm atmosphere.

Lighting was key in this space to create both a daytime and nighttime vibe that was darling but approachable and that would suit both the neighborhood regulars and destination diners alike no matter what time of day. Whimsical brass animal heads, vintage books, steamer trunks and locally sourced art pieces brought the final touches of the design concept together to create a space that truly matches its gorgeous historical setting.
